According to government statistics, 2.3 million Filipinos work overseas. More than half (53.7 percent) are women.

Convicted rapist and murderer Billy Ray Irick was executed last night by means of lethal injection. Irick had been on death row for more than 30 years. The Catholic bishops of Knoxville and Nashville called the execution unnecessary. It served no useful purpose..
