Kira Schlesinger's Pro-Choice and Christian: Reconciling Faith, Politics and Justice, published by Westminster John Knox Press in 2017, argues that many people of faith find themselves in a murky middle of the supposedly black-and-white issue of abortion.
During National Catholic Sisters Week, Catholic sisters tell their stories at Standup Sisters, a live storytelling event.
On the show today:
- Kelly Stewart, NCR contributor and doctoral student in theological studies at Vanderbilt University
- Kira Schlesinger, author and interim rector at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Nashville
- Excerpts from Standup Sisters, a live annual storytelling show hosted during National Catholic Sisters Week
Background reading and listening:
- Schlesinger's writing is clear and engaging and her analysis is critical but respectful, writes Kelly Stewart.
- "Pro-Choice and Christian: Reconciling Faith, Politics and Justice" is available from Westminster John Knox Press.
- In addition to Standup Sisters: Green Habits, the fifth annual National Catholic Sisters Week included nearly 80 events funded by mini-grants, including activities such as bowling with sisters and making chocolates.
- You can listen to past stories shared at Standup Sisters on their SoundCloud page.
