Kudos to Our Sunday Visitor for calling out the prebuttals against the pope's encyclical on the environment and pointing out that Pope Francis is building, very clearly, on the teachings of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Of course, some of our conservative friends did not like to pay attention to everything Benedict had to say: Gold and red pens anyone?
A rightwing attack on Archbishop Blase Cupich because he stands with the Holy Father - and with previous Holy Fathers, and with the Sacred Scriptures - on the subject of immigration. I suspect that +Cupich will increasingly be a focus of attacks by those who are unhinged by Pope Francis. Such attacks are a badge of honor.
And, this is not a link, but a happy anniversary wish to Archbishop Robert Gonzalez, OFM, the Archbishop of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Today is both the anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood and the anniversary of his installation as archbishop of that beautiful, old city - and its 2.2 million Roman Catholics. Very few archbishops have had to put up with worse from the Vatican curia over the years than +Roberto but he has not only survived, he has flourished, and he is deeply loved by the people of the island. Ad Multos Annos!
