While the Trump administration has brought a migrant caravan to the forefront of immigration news, many South and Central American migrant families in the United States remain separated from their children, often because a parent has been deported.
On the show today:
- Brenda Nettles Riojas, editor of The Valley Catholic and director of diocesan relations for the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas
- Clara Dina Hinojosa, associate editor of Celebration
Background reading:
- Brenda Nettles Riojas wrote about the plight of migrant families for NCR's sister publication, Celebration. The piece is also available in Spanish.
- Members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Huixtla, Mexico, rose early Oct. 24 to feed a fraction of the Central American migrants traveling in a caravan, which is trying to traverse Mexico and reach the United States border.
- In August, Maria Benevento reported about civil society groups with international connections that are stepping in to find parents of unaccompanied migrant children and offer legal assistance.
