Please join the Institute for Practical Ethics for the Climate Change Technologies Workshop on March 12-13, 2020. The keynote address will be delivered by Holly J. Buck of UCLA.

Climate change is a pernicious problem. The global community has, up to this point, fallen short of: (1) reducing greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation); and (2) preparing communities for the climatic changes that can’t be avoided (adaptation). This lack of progress on mitigation and adaptation means that we will more and more have to rely upon technologies to assuage some of the harm that climate change will carry with it. But some of the technologies that aim to assuage climatic effects – e.g., carbon dioxide removal, solar radiation management technologies – raise myriad social and political issues. This two-day workshop aims to bring together scholars from the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to think through some of the social and political questions engendered by these and other climate change technologies.

This workshop will be held in the Dolores Huerta – Philip Vera Cruz Room at UC San Diego.

Event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Space is limited -- please RSVP!
