The Washington Post reports that the Trump administration is considering giving new power to the DHS for the deportation of immigrants to be expedited. I warned everyone back at the beginning of the year that whenever this administration gets into trouble, they are going to make life miserable for immigrants. For starters, it polls well. Just because it is inhumane and further divides the country doesn't mean they will not pursue it.

The Irish Times reports on a talk by Cardinal Christoph Schonborn on the necessity of Amoris Laetitia and its invitation to bring mercy to the wide range of familial complexities the Church encounters today.
Yesterday's front page of the New York Times compared the ecclesiological and evangelical approaches of Cardinal Timothy Dolan in New York and Cardinal Joseph Tobin in Newark. Two things jumped out at me. First, my former colleague John Allen, who wrote a book about Dolan, threw the man under the bus, saying: "He's never been into running a diocese... The nuts and bolts of deciding what priest is going to be in what parish has zero interest for him. He’s a big-picture guy." I am sure that won Dolan brownie points with his clergy. Also, the Times gave Allen the last word:
“It comes down to small stuff,” Mr. Allen said. “Tobin would be somebody who, if there were a theologian under investigation, would instinctively sympathize with the theologian. And I think Dolan’s instinctive sympathies would be with the system.”
Small stuff?
