Ahead of Pax Christi USA's national conference (July 30-31), the Catholic nonviolenece organization will host a special pre-conference event on July 30 (1-5 p.m. EST) planned by the U.S. cohort of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative that will explore one of the central charisms of Pax Christi USA, gospel nonviolence. The four breakout sessions of the event will cover:
- gospel nonviolence and the Laudato Si’ platform
- the history and strategy of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative
- nonviolent strategies in today’s social movements
- and exploring a “just peace” ethic
The panel on Laudato Si', "Gospel Nonviolence for a Laudato Si' Future" will explore what role nonviolence has within the context of the Laudato Si action plan as the Catholic Church undertakes a multi-year plan to pursue the goals laid out in Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’. The session will be moderated by Marie Dennis, and will include panelists Amy Echeverria of Catholic Nonviolence Initiative Steering Committee and Michelle Sherman, a member of the Pax Christi Young Adult Caucus and a campus minister.
You can register for this lead-in event at the same time you register for the 2021 Pax Christi USA National Conference. You’ll be sent a follow-up email asking which breakout sessions you want to attend and giving you a special link for this event shortly before the event is scheduled to take place.
