The American Humanist Association has delivered electronic and paperback copies of Jefferson's highly edited version of the Gospels to all incoming members of Congress and to President Barack Obama.
Bishop of Las Cruces retires; San Antonio auxiliary named successor
Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Bishop Ricardo Ramirez of Las Cruces, N.M., and named as his successor Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Cantu of San Antonio.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States, announced the changes Thursday in Washington.
The Diocese of Las Cruces was established in 1982 and Ramirez, now 76, was named its first bishop. Canon law requires bishops to submit their resignations when they turn 75.
Cantu, 46, has been an auxiliary bishop in San Antonio since 2008.
New York auxiliary bishop named to head Diocese of Camden, NJ
Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignation of Bishop Joseph Galante of Camden, N.J., and has named Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Sullivan of New York to succeed him.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, papal nuncio to the U.S., announced the changes Tuesday in Washington.
Galante, 74, has headed the Camden Diocese since 2004. He previously served as auxiliary bishop of San Antonio, bishop of Beaumont, Texas, and coadjutor bishop of Dallas.
Sullivan, 67, was named auxiliary bishop of New York in 2004. He was ordained to the priesthood in the archdiocese in 1971.

Police recover stolen Bible after church's string of bad luck
A scruffy-looking man walked up and down St. Louis' antiques row, trying to peddle an old Bible to store owners, but several thought something was amiss.
Kenez Jakovac of Hammonds Books said he felt the same way, but paid the man $30 for the Bible on Dec. 23. Jakovac said he believed the Bible was worth $500 to $1,000 and he suspected it might be stolen.
He said he did an Internet search the day after Christmas and found a Post-Dispatch story about a special Bible stolen from St. Johns Lutheran Church just days before Christmas services.
