Pope meets abuse victims in Germany
On day two of his Sept. 22-25 trip to Germany, Pope Benedict XVI met a small group of victims of clerical sexual abuse. It was the pope’s sixth such meeting, after encountering victims during previous trips to the United States, Australia, Malta and the United Kingdom, as well as a meeting with Canadian "first nations" victims in Rome.
The following is a Vatican statement released after the meeting, as well as a release from the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests in response to the meeting.
Vatican Press Statement
This evening, in the seminary at Erfurt, Pope Benedict XVI met with a group of victims of sexual abuse committed by priests and church personnel. Subsequently he greeted some people who care for those injured by these crimes.
Moved and deeply shaken by the sufferings of the victims, the Holy Father expressed his deep compassion and regret over all that was done to them and their families. He assured the people present that those in positions of responsibility in the Church are seriously concerned to deal with all crimes of abuse and are committed to the promotion of effective measures for the protection of children and young people. Pope Benedict XVI is close to the victims and he expresses the hope that the merciful God, Creator and Redeemer of all mankind, may heal the wounds of the victims and grant them inner peace.
From the Vatican, 23 September 2011.
SNAP Statement
Statement by Emmanuel Henckens of Belgium, member of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests:
The Pope’s visit will make a handful of wounded individuals feel better for a while. We applaud the victims for having the courage and compassion to try and make a difference.
But the pope’s meeting will do nothing to stop priests from molesting kids or bishops from concealing crimes.
The meeting will be one more nice but ultimately meaningless gesture from a man who could easily protect kids but refuses to do so, and who acts like "God's Rottweiler" with dissident theologians but a calm pussycat with complicit bishops and predatory clerics.

I agree with the SNAP'S label
I agree with the SNAP'S label of God's Rotweiller - The wolf is in with the sheep. There must come reform - back to gospel values please - Christ came as a servant - not in robes - he declined efforts to make him a political figure - He was indeed a king - a crown of thorns his crown - a cross his throne - judging no one - accepting all - even women - imagine - May the Holy Spirit truly descend - He certainly has not had the Vatican and numerous bishops bent more on protecting "status" than God's sheep and lambs. Jesus wept and so do we.
Please read the 1988 study
Please read the 1988 study The Silencing of Leonardo Boff: The Vatican and the Future of World Christianity by Rev. Harvey Cox to see this shifty Rotweiller (whether hound of Heaven remains to be seen) in its vicious and destructive prime.

Yep. Methinks I agree with
Yep. Methinks I agree with you.
Me thinks you are right.

Maybe they started out about
Maybe they started out about abuse victims, but not now.
Indeed SNAP has converted
Indeed SNAP has converted them to its own warped crusade
You know, gerard, your
You know, gerard, your statement here is insupportable by the facts, and that SNAP again displays greater integral concern for living our Faith than a roomful of wojtyla-ratzinger bishops.
Living in a diocese which
Living in a diocese which declared bankruptcy due to the sexual abuse crisis, I am amazed at the handling of the whole affair. A diocesan building "sold "to the Catholic college(in same town)prior to bankruptcy proceeding. As soon as bankruptcy finalized the building was "bought" by diocese. Does that sound "fishy"? Watching the whole affair from a distance I feel that many things that came up then were not illegal...just imoral.
Pope Benedict is one of the
Pope Benedict is one of the main reasons Catholics left the church. He is probably the most important criminals in the cover up of tens of thousands of child sex abuse cases in the Catholic church, since he was in charge of the cover-up since the 1980s, when he handled that specific duty for John Paul II.
He continues today.
Bishop Vangheluwe ADMITTED that he had sex with his 5 year old NEPHEW (and for 13 years after that), and also had sex with the other nephew, and after over a year, Pope Benedict hasn’t decided how to rule on his case. Both of these guys are truly evil.
Catholic protect Pope Benedict because they think he promises them a free ticket to heaven. Think God approves of someone who concealed 100,000+ child rapes in His church?
Once again the pope is doing
Once again the pope is doing his PR tactic to make it look like he cares about victims and children. He feels 'deeply shaken" but he still takes no action to hold church officials accountable for covering up crimes against kids, so the abuse still continues today.
Click the link to read the 80 page complaint which SNAP "Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests" and the CCR turned over to the "International Criminal Court", at the Hague in the Netherlands on Tuesday, Sept. 13th. http://nationbuilder.s3.amazonaws.com/snap/pages/795/attachments/origina...
We urge anyone who has knowledge, or has been harmed by clergy, teachers, volunteers, employees, within any diocese to speak up,, contact police and turn over any evidence or documents to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
The sex abuse of children and the cover up of these crimes within the catholic system is still going on today. Children will never be safe until the church officials and leaders are held accountable for enabling, empowering, and protecting predator clergy.
We are hoping the ICC will take our case against the pope and 3 high ranking Vatican officials for committing crimes against humanity.
This is the only way for victims to see justice, expose the truth, and therefore protect kids today.

The laudable efforts of SNAP
The laudable efforts of SNAP to keep this crucial issue on the front stage is worth a nod. However, there is much the Church has done over the last several years in regards to child protection, training for priests and all church personnel, seminary formation and seminary entrance review. Cut the Holy Father some slack. The man is not hiding from the issue and does recognize its horror. Reform is a slow process that takes a change of heart and mind. The many, many good priests and Bishops who serve the Church deserve more respect and support for their efforts. The issue is far wider than the Catholic Church alone: Scouts, other Christian and non-Christian congregations, fathers, uncles, mothers, and siblings who engage in far greater numberrs with this crime against the innocent.
Base on this report SNAP
Base on this report SNAP definitely has an evil agenda, so before any Catholics condemn the church and priests you should be sure of the truth, I am not saying that abuses did not happen, I know they did, there have been books written about atheists/communists infiltration in the church, don't forget satans very clever, he knows who to attack, we should be praying for our priests instead of attacking them.
I believe the Catholic Church is the one true church founded by Jesus Christ, I choose to stay and fight the spiritual battle that lies ahead, unlike the false Catholics who leave the church, I think these people will judge more harshly.

Another visit to another
Another visit to another country. Another perfunctory "meet and greet" with abuse survivors. Check it off the list, along with "luncheon with the metropolitans." Ho hum.
Why is SNAP taken seriously
Why is SNAP taken seriously by anyone?
I saw a documentary on TV
I saw a documentary on TV that showed evidence years ago that he did try to protect the flock, and may have payed some political penalties for it. Also, in politics, making nice at one faction, the victims in this case, is going to hurt any other faction opposed to them.
It isn't stupendous, or maybe even impressive, but calling it nothing isn't factual.
Why, oh why, are the victims
Why, oh why, are the victims never interviewed after the meeting instead of a SNAP reaction? SNAP is a lawyer's referral service and a way to extort money, it cares not one iota for the victims, but it loves the victim's tort claims.
Why should Law, Sodano and
Why should Law, Sodano and the other cowardly clerics complicit in this crime have any peace whatsoever, never mind privilege and protection?
"He indeed a king - crown of
"He indeed a king - crown of thorns his crown -- a cross his throne -- judging no one...."
Anita,
I would agree; but Jesus is also He who raised Lazarus from the dead, who gave sight to the blind, whose verdict or judgment beat in every line he uttered. He is also the Risen Lord, who took the remains or Cross of Calvary to glory; Jesus is He "who sits at the right hand of the Father" and is truely present in the Eucharist. How a pope is supposed to give testimony to all this and find his true repose in Jesus, crucified and risen, is difficult to say. At times, it seems, the victorious victory of Christ is never understated in a pope's style. (A pope must never forget, however, that he is also the "servants of the servants," in the words of Pope Gregory I, as well as Vicar of Christ. [All these dissimilar ranks, orders, categories!!!!]) Anyway, each pope will have to gain from within himself a long-range memory of past titles and customs, then come up with a style needed for today. Of course, whatever he comes up with will never please everyone, who often feel a pope is incapable of seeing his own image.
And as usual SNAP could care
And as usual SNAP could care less. They just want money, not real justice. This Pope has done more for ending abuse by Priests than any of his predecessors yet of course, he is attacked for doing the right thing dissidents. Makes you wonder whether or not SNAP cares about Dissidents or abuse victims.
