Obama reversal on Defense of Marriage Act

The USCCB, (the National Office for Pedophile Protection), has no authority left, except maybe an embarrasingly tiny squeek, well, maybe not even that.

The Roman bishops need a history lesson. Their lawyer said that in support of their position against same sex marriage was the questionable statement that a majority of Americans oppose same sex marriage. Well, guess what ? We live in a Republic, where the Constitution protects the rights of minorities, regardless of the tyranny of the majority. So now besides being obcessed with the reproductive choices of women, the men in red and purple dresses are now lawyers too. This is a tragedy, because the good people who are the actual Catholic Church are wonderful, holy, generous, devoted, intelligent, gentle people. For example 27% of people living with HIV in the world today are cared for by Catholic people in Catholic institutions.

These men were all appointed to their offices because they had proven they would tow the party line, not because they were lawyers, theologians, physicians or were called by the Spirit through the grass roots process of the communities calling them because they had allowed the Spirit to work through them, as was done per ancient tradition in the Christian church, (yes, the present process is a mideval Italian anachronism), and as surely as Communism was left behind in Eastern Europe, and dictatorships are being left behind in the Mideast, the dictatorshps of the Roman communities will go its outdated way in years to come.

Jesus taught his deciples to embrace the "other", the poor, prostitutes, Samaritans. In our day it is the poor, prostitutes and GLBT people. It was not easy or comfortable then, and isn't necessarily easy today, but it is what it is. We are all God's creatures, and He made us the way we are for a reason.

Sexual orientation is NOT a moral issue. If it were, there would be free will and choice involved. No academic course on the subject would ever state that today. About 7% of all members of all the species on planet earth exhibit same sex behavior, from humans, to apes, to fish to insects. It's as natural as breathing. If you are straight, how old were you when you "chose" to be straight. Everyone knows sexuality does not work that way.

When asked in open court by the judge in the Prop 8 case in California, the lawyer, in answer to the question "How exactly does same sex marriage threaten the institution of marraige ?" said "I don't know" !

Marriage DOES need to be defended. In the neighboring most populous county to us in Minnesota, 65-70% of children live in single parent homes. This has nothing to do with same sex relationships, is a huge probem, and one of the main reasons so many children live in poverty.
