New U.S. nuncio blasts corruption in Vatican operations
by Tom Roberts on Jan. 25, 2012
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, a former Vatican official and now U.S. nuncio, denounced corruption in the management of the Holy See according to letters he sent the pope, the contents of which were published today in the Italian press. In the letters, Vigano reportedly said his transfer to the U.S. was a "punishment" that caused concern among others who saw an opportunity to clean up Vatican waste and corruption.

So much for evidence of the
So much for evidence of the Holy Spirit working through the Vatican powers.
The first vatican domino just
The first vatican domino just fell

No, such dominos fall all the
No, such dominos fall all the time albeit not usually announced by a leading prelate. Just look at the Vatican Bank kafuffles over the years. Nothing much comes from these cries of alarm.
Now, if this prelate's speaking out stimulates a lot of his peers to take up the cause, that would be sure evidence of the Holy Spirit at work.
Goodbye Good Cardinal, you
Goodbye Good Cardinal, you have just violated communio and they will be
shipping you out soon. What a reward for doing just what the Vatican needed.
God Bless.

Tom, they did ship him out already.
"his transfer to the U.S. was a "punishment"
What does that tell you about how the USA is now seen in Rome?
Did Dolan take coming back to the USA as a punishment, and so he does all to return quickly to Rome with greater power and wealth and prestige?
Why does Ratzinger's March trip to Mexico and Cuba not include a stop in Washington, where he would eagerly munch birthday cake with Baby Bush in the Rose Garden?
Because this is a presidential election year in the USA and he does not wish to appear alongside our president?
Better than Bush . . .
and yet he goes to Mexico, which also celebrates an election year this year, and whose president Calderon, puppet of the right wingers, friend of the Pinochet-picked president of Chile, fits Ratzinger's politics, and where he plans to visit exclusively the Mexican states run by Calderon's party, during this eleciton year, excpet the local dioceses are no longer generously coughing up the money to host such an expensive trip, and so Calderon is pouring in the millions while the poor in Mexico starve and freeze?
just asking
so when you do see the pope standing alongside the present Panista president of Mexico during this election year, you know . . .
on a state sponsored trip
He's not a cardinal as of
He's not a cardinal as of yet,but nuncios to the USA usually become cardinals after their term here.
His real punishment is not
His real punishment is not being exiled to the United States, but rather, the purgatory of ecclesial colleagues.
How gracious! To speak out
How gracious! To speak out against poor or overcharged service is being a good steward of our money. While the archbishop may believe that his being sent to the US was a punishment, it appears to be a blessing for us. The Holy Spirit does work in mysterious ways.
Honesty, transparency,
Honesty, transparency, truthfulness, openness, accountability.....are these the traits of a prelate? How did Archbishop Vigano attain the rank of bishop with such behavior? Who does he think he is attempting to be so forthright and honorable, I'm shocked, shocked I say by such conduct....he deserves to be punished by the Vatican. How could they permit someone with such character to live there much less work there?
I am shocked, do you hear me:
I am shocked, do you hear me: shocked!
Financial and other skullduggery in The Vatican? Who woulda thunk.
Blessed are those from whom you expect nothing: you shall not be disappointed.
But if all the good pew potatoes do is wring their hands, remember this: Jesus told his followers to turn the other cheek, not to bend over.
Maybe we [USA} lucked out
Maybe we [USA} lucked out with a straight shooter
The referenced article says:
The referenced article says: "Corriere della Sera said that Vigano encountered hostility and had decided to turn to Benedict because of the pope's stated desire for more transparency. But the report said that Vigano's move -- as well as a demand by the prelate to meet with his detractors face to face -- had backfired badly."
Ummm. Benedict has stated a desire for more tranparancy. I look at how the Church is run by all the bishops and all the hiding of sex abuse and the fighting in courts to avoid paying consequences for the sex abuse - and I don't see transparancy. Did vigano really believe, after the way the Australian bishops was axed, that the Church thinks someone accused of failing to service the church correctly had some right to actually face those who accused him of it? Oh, please, Vigano is a member of the curia that doesn't believe in it for anyone else!

"Peter's pence" is + or -
"Peter's pence" is + or - millions. We are catholic, universal, with a preferential for the poor. Cesar's collections and cache were personal. Paul did say that we were to try to help our poorest by "dressing them up". Especially as they mature into the holiness of their office, let us see our episcopal pastors as the poorest and neediest among us, the "servants of the servants of God." No one, save for Jesus, could ever better proclaim the greatness of God!

Maybe he got here and looked
Maybe he got here and looked around and saw how many African and Indian priests the US bishops are renting from their home dioceses, where they are sorely needed, in exchange for American cash! Maybe he realized that such bishops are in line to be promoted, despite the fact that they have pushed off until a very short tomorrow the consequences of our so called "priest shortage" while married deacons, married men, and women of any condition are locked out of the seminaries!
He'll probably be canned and the Baker Oregon Diocese will have to wait another full year to replaced the gratefully departed Bishop Vasa......
The head of the Vatican bank,
The head of the Vatican bank, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, comes from an old aristocratic family, is related to Carla Bruni, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy - who chose one of his ministers to head the IMF - and is a member of the Opus Dei, who, before going to the Vatican, led the Italian branch of Santander, the 6th bigger bank in the world. It's all a coincidence?
