I think the Legion is worth

I think the Legion is worth saving but it needs to be re-founded. I think Pope Benedict should be the one to re-found it. All traces of Maciel need to be removed to include his writings which are used in the training of seminarians. Those who covered up for Maciel need to be disciplined in some way. There also needs to be transparency for the financial aspects of the Legion.

The recent publicity has hurt them but there are still big bucks behind the Legion. I recently got a letter from Fr Bannon who is the director of seminarians. He said they had a million dollar shortfall this past fiscal year. But some anonymous donor even after all the revelations is willing to put up $500,000 to match any contributions. So if they can collect $500,000 from little donors like me, then they will make up their shortfall. They asked me to contribute $1,250.00. I sent them $25.00.

The Legion is hardly that! The Legionaries are honorable priests & brothers. Their founder is a sexually sick person. God works in strange ways. Would you say don't contribute to Covenant House because its founder Fr Bruce Ritter was sexually sick too? Life is not so black & white as we'd like it to be. God works with the clay available to him. All humans save the BVM are sinners. It's a matter of degree.

There is a profound difference between Covenant House and the Legion. The Legion is an ego cult that took vows to cover up its founder's crimes. I agree life isn't all black and white, but the Legion keeps insisting it is.

I hope they are shut down. They were built on a lie and when financed by such big money you have to wonder why. No more secrecy either. Make public what is found by any investigation.
