Is Bill Donohue for real? Does he write his own material or does he get help form the bishops? One wonders.

Thank you for publishing the Catholic League's letter. I would not send a donation if my life depended upon it.

Donohue's paranoia is only exceeded by his over-the-top homophobia.     Most of the PR and legal problems presently experienced by the Catholic Church leadership are of their own making.     Instead of learning from their abysmal failures and correcting course,   they instead dug-in further.     Donohue's aggressive tribal tactics aren't helping the situation.     He is an embarrassment to anyone outside of the more-Catholic-than-the-pope crowd of League supporters.

Recently,   Donohue accused Robert Jeffress and his organization of being a "hate group" — to which we can say:   Pot,   meet kettle.     Those two men and their methods deserve each other.

It gives me great holiday JOY to know that every time Mr. Donohue and those who support him -whether they realize it or not- kneel down to receive communion, they have just finished reciting the now formulaic words of the Roman centurion pleading for the health of his lover who was no more a servant than Mary Magdalene was a prostitute:

You don't really expect us to believe that you "bells and smells" types had absolutely NO idea of the exegesis on this text when you SLIPPED IT IN, do you?

Donohue seems to think of himself as some sort of de facto Papal Nuncio. Some of the Bishops also seem to think of him that way. This self appointed spokesman for the Catholic Church seems to think that everyone is entitled to Donohue's opinion. Amazing.

Those "leading bishops" -- might they be the same ones who've been leading their flocks astray by covering up clergy sex abuse? If so, is Mr. Donohue a co-conspirator in their criminal schemes, and a highly paid one at that? How do you plead, Mr. Donohue?

It is a mean and inaccurate strawman created here.

Does the leadership of the RCC actually feel their multinational corporation is so vulnerable to a little group of survivors? Talk about the predator playing the victim! There is obviously something very true about he power of the truth.

It reads like a demented persons delusional ravings. Why even bother to repoort this kind of drivel. It satisfies a need for the ignorant to contribute. A persecution complex is the veary last thing or catholic church needs right now. Openness, candor, a willingness to learn and to adjust to the times we live in. We need to lean heavily on the Advent time and examine
our collective consciences. Divisiveness is not ahealthy sign. It would
also behoove the church authorities to speak out agains this kind of
Christian Hooliganism. We all need to find common ground and prepare for
a future where our sect can be seen as credible. We need a Church for our time. There is nothing sacred about a return to a Mediaeval expression which
is doomed to failure.
Our Church is large and there are many viewpoints to be had. This kind of
delusional approach should be rejected, and publicly, by our leaders.
May the coming celebration of Christs Birth bring renewal and grace and an infusion of humility and repentance to us all.

Dear Mr. Gallegher,

I respect very much your comments, but when I read the first reaction to the last one occurred to me that a dangerous game is being played right now. Two scenarios are possible:

1) The Catholic Church in the US is becoming a far right movement, more loony, irresponsible and pernicious than the Tea Party;

2) There is a campaign led by provocative agents aimed at debasing and degrading the debate in NCR.

I would prefer, as a Catholic, that only the second hypothesis is true.

The problem is not SNAP or bishopaccountability. It's all the bishops who've been covering up for the abusers.The cover-up has become an impediment to the New Evangelisation. The only solution -- list the names of all the abusers on diocesan websites and in diocsean newspapers.

It was interesting to read the testimonials from bishops on the web site. I had been giving those particular bishops more credit for intelligence and sound judgement than they apparently deserve.
