MSW on CBS News
by Michael Sean Winters on Feb. 13, 2012
In case you missed it, I was interviewed last week for the CBS Evening News by Elaine Quijano. The interview was part of a report they aired Saturday night. Here is the link.
I should note that the interview was conducted before the President announced his "accommodation" on Friday.
And, I should also note that we filmed the interview at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New London, Connecticut which, as you can see from the pictures, is one of the most beautiful churches I know. A shout out to the pastor, Father Bob Washabaugh, whom I have known since childhood, for letting use film at his beautiful church.

You're hurt and angry,
You're hurt and angry, Michael? Really?
Your shallow outrage at an "outsider" intruding into an internal Catholic debate on contraception is as bogus as the hierarchs' attempt to politically wound the President's reelection just so the hierarchs can bolster their political standing with the Vatican - all on the back of women's health needs. What a guy?
If you think this whole contraception controversy is about "Catholic" principles or "religious liberty," then I suppose you also believe that unicorns defecate in technicolor.
Whatever you feel for the Obama Administrations policy decisions PALES in comparison to the anxiety and worry the woman, a nurse at a Catholic hospital who appeared in the same news story as you did, feels every day as she tries to provide for and protect her family as they make their way through an uncertain and unsafe economy.
Get real, Michael. You come off as phony as the political animal hierarchs.
And, not voting in the next election is a huge COP-OUT! The last time mealy mouthed "moderates" decided not to vote, or voted for Ralph Nader, because their consciences wouldn't allow them, we got W in the White House. You remember where that led us: countless thousands of innocent women and children dead in Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to the innocents at the WTC.
Grow a pair, Michael. Politics is about making choices. This year we have to choose between either Mittens or an American Torquemada in Santorum, or Barack Obama.
And besides, Christianity, and life, is not for sissies! Make a choice.
how come jim can put Mike in
how come jim can put Mike in his place but not me. I have yet to see anything at all distinctly catholic around here
Hang in there charles, your
Hang in there charles, your day will come. Keep firing on all pistons. We have to keep our Catholic ideologues under control.
Thank you for saying it
Thank you for saying it better than I could Mr Jenkins!
Tonight, MSW will be
Tonight, MSW will be appearing at K-Mart for the blue light special....
Michael, I wonder what your
Michael, I wonder what your opinion is now that the president changed his mind and decided on a compromise. I might mention also that religious liberty is not simply the prerogative of the bishops. It is also something that applies to employees of church institutions. The bishops claim they should be allowed to determine what insurance covers, but they disregard the religious liberty of their employees to make their own decisions.
These bishops, and the others
These bishops, and the others jumping on the bishops' culture war chariots, can henceforth be referred to as the VAGINA IDEOLOGUES, as brilliantly termed last night on the Jon Stewart Show.
Boy! What ever happened to
Boy! What ever happened to "Be respectful. Do not attack the writer." I got the feeling that MSW felt betrayed by Obama, since he has been going out on a limb, for such a long time, defending him.
Really I have felt he would pass for a moderate liberal. I don't get where some of the others are trashing him. He stated his opinion which is after all, his opinion.
