Updated 11:02 a.m. CST Thursday. Our first matching grant of the day honoring Rachel Lustig's brother's birthday has been met, but an anonymous donor has challenged us with another $1,000 matching grant. Please donate now .
Good news this morning, day five of Webathon 2013: We crept over the $60,000 mark last night. That puts us in sight of our $100,000 goal for the week. But we are not there yet. Today is crucial. We need a good showing today to keep us on track. I do hope you can support NCR by donating now .
Rachel Lustig is supporting NCR. In honor of her brother's birthday, she is giving a $1,000 challenge grant. She'll match the next $1,000 that comes in. Let's help Rachel celebrate her brother by meeting this challenge fast.
I've heard NCR described in various ways over the years: a newspaper, a news source, a community, "my last hope," and even, "it keeps me sane." Whatever NCR means to you, please support it. No donation is too small. We appreciate donations of $250 or $500 but we also appreciate the $10, $20 and $30 donations from readers. We are a frugal operation here at NCR, so you know each and every dollar will be put to good use. It will be used to meet the needs you have for solid reporting on the Catholic church.
Reporting is what distinguishes NCR from other Catholic websites and media outlets. Other sites have lots of opinion and commentary. Fewer of them have the kind of original reporting that we do at NCR. As I have mentioned already, that kind of reporting takes money, and that is why we need you to donate now.
To make our budget for this year, we need to raise $100,000 this week. Please help .
Just in the last seven days, we've had reports from John Allen in Rome; from Brian Roewe in Reno, Nev., with the National Federation of Priests' Councils; and from Mary Jo McConahay, reporting from Guatemala City on the genocide trial of former strongman Gen. José Efraín Ríos Montt. This week, we learned that the canonization of Archbishop Oscar Romero is back on track after years of being blocked. If you didn't read these stories here, where would you read them? Could you find them somewhere else?
Help us keep those stories coming your way. Please donate now .
You can make a one-time donation or a recurring donation to NCR either monthly, quarterly or yearly. The gift amount you designate will automatically be charged to your credit card as you indicate. Go to the "Donate to NCR" button, click on it, then simply fill in the box with the amount you want to donate. Click on the drop-down box to specify the frequency of your gift, and complete the rest of the form as normal. This is a painless, simple means of providing NCR with the support it needs to continue reporting the news of the church and the world.
