It is evening in Kansas City, Mo. I'm monitoring our webathon and severe thunderstorms. It's springtime in the Midwest!
As we enter the evening hours, we're just short of our Day One goal. We need to raise $100,000 this week, so each day is crucial. Please donate now.
You're visiting this website because you find something of value here. Please show how much you value NCR with a generous donation. We only come to like this one week a year. We would much rather you spend time reading our news, analysis and commentary and not our pleas for funds, but the reality is that the kind of reporting we do costs money. Please donate support our mission.
This has been a historic day with the canonization of two popes , one of whom the vast majority of NCR readers knew in our lifetimes, St. John Paul II, and one of whom at least some of our readers knew and all admired, St. John XXIII. I have a special devotion to St. John XXIII because National Catholic Reporter was founded during the Second Vatican Council, which John called, and the paper found its voice in lay Catholics who were inspired and empowered by the council.
Since being appointed NCR editor two and a half years ago, I have come to recognize that I stand on the shoulders of giants. It's a cliché but true nonetheless. They were journalists and Catholics who had a vision of how journalism could serve the church. It's a vision we share today.
If you believe that NCR has been of service to you and your church community, I ask you to please take the time now to show your appreciation by making a donation to our fifth annual webathon .
We need to raise $100,000 this week, this one week, to meet our funding needs. Please help.
Help us meet this goal -- or, better yet, surpass it -- and we'll go back to unrestricted access to the reporting, analysis and commentary you have come to expect from NCR.
We're working for you. Please help with a generous donation .
