California diocese withdraws funding for agency serving the homeless

The Catholic Diocese of Sacramento has withdrawn its funding to a nonprofit agency that serves homeless people because the agency's director supports abortion rights and same-sex marriage, according to Sacramento-area news reports.

Francis House, one of the area's largest homeless services agencies, has an annual budget of about $500,000, and for at least 20 years had received yearly contributions ranging between $7,500 and $10,000 from the diocese, reported The Sacramento Bee [1].

Rev. Faith Whitmore told a local CBS station that she found the diocese's decision "surprising and disappointing."
