Anglicans name new Archbishop of Canterbury

Dennis Coday  |  Nov. 8, 2012 NCR Today

The new leader of the 77-million member Anglican communion is a former oil executive and hails from the traditional, evangelical wing of the church, reports the Daily Mail. See New Archbishop of Canterbury: Justin Welby, the oil executive who heard God calling [1]

The Daily Mail reported that "Theologically, [Welby] is unashamedly part of the evangelical tradition, upholding a more traditional and conservative interpretation of the Bible than some in the Church of England. But he is also a strong advocate of more modern styles of worship."

His family background is in whisky -- his father hobnobbed with the Kennedys [2].
