This is an outstanding article by Daniel Burke. I am glad he asked Ratzinger why he revoked the teaching credential of Hans Kung and also why he silenced the great Leonardo Boff. Ratzinger was much to far to the right of all the great theologians of the Second Vatican Council. I stopped believing in the institutional Church right around the time that John Paul II was made Bishop of Rome. I never dreamed in my wildest dreams that Ratzinger, whose past included his membership in the Hitler Youth movement, would actually be elected Bishop of Rome! It was that moment when I realized the Latin Rite Church was doomed to decay and become irrelevant. Benedict will go down in history as a mean and fundamentalist pope who destroyed the work of the Council fathers.
