The End does not justify the Means.

The first part of this piece is great news - to pioneer the use of Solar Power. Lindsey Cromwell, and the folks at Jesuit Santa Clara University ought to be commended for their pioneering efforts.

The second part of this piece (the mode of financing) is unfortunately "NOT SO GREAT" news. It is "DUMB", "NAIVE" and "PATHETIC". As a graduate of another Jesuit University, I have a very different view:

"To deliver the solar energy system without upfront cost to the diocese, Photon partnered with an independent power producer, Perpetual Energy Systems, a Chicago-based firm, which paid for the solar equipment and will sell the diocese the power it produces under a 25-year solar services agreement. “We anticipate that this agreement will result in significant financial savings for the diocese over the next 25 years,” explained Keele."

“During the agreement term, the diocese will benefit from the use of solar renewable energy while Perpetual Energy Systems retains ownership of the system as well as the renewable energy certificates and carbon credits,” said Mike Maley, president and CEO of Perpetual.

What a pity!
What a shame!!
What a disgrace!!!

As a society, we have yet to learn that the end does not justify the means.
As a society, we have yet to lean that we cannot "BORROW" and "SPEND"our way to PROSPERITY.
As a society, we have yet to learn from the AIG debacle, the bankruptcy of Lehmann and the near collapse of the nation's banking system.

Amadeo Peter Giannini and James Baciagalupi must be turning over in their graves, if only they could have read this piece!!

Bishop Patrick McGrath, and the folks at Santa Clara University ought to visit East Africa, where some CATHOLIC NUNS have installed Solar Panels for power generation at their Convent, at the foothills of Mt.Kilimanjaro - all without the help of a "PERPETUAL PARASITE".

God helps those who help themselves.
