Catholic peace advocacy organization Pax Christi USA has changed the venue of its 2013 national conference from Washington to Atlanta.
The annual conference will now convene June 14-16 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Atlanta, Pax Christi announced Feb. 5. The conference was originally supposed to be held at a Hyatt in Washington, D.C., because of "hotel workers' request for people of conscience to boycott Hyatt hotels," the group said.
On Valentine's Day, approximately 30 people danced and clapped around a room at Johnson County Community College to rise up against violence against women.
Students, faculty and local community members danced to commemorate the 15th annual V-Day, a campaign that raises awareness each Feb. 14 about violence against girls and women. The global movement is inspired by activist and Tony Award-winning playwright Eve Ensler, author of "The Vagina Monologues."
Women, men, children, families, organizations and nations will rise Feb. 14 with the hope of ending violence against women.
