A Psalm of Flexibility

O spirit of God’s eternal springtime heart,
grant me the virtue of elasticity.

Make my heart as boundless as my Beloved’s heart,
which at this moment is creating
new galaxies and infant suns.

Make me pliable and playful with your Spirit
as you teach me the alchemist’s recipe
of how to keep my heart’s skin
like baby’s skin, ever-expansive,
able to hold the wildest of wines.

Stir my mind well with your sacred spoon
to awaken the fermentation of ideas
stilled by the ten thousand little compromises
required of me by the stiffness
of the old leathered skins of society and religion.

Gift me with elastic frontiers of heart and mind,
so I can see before my eyes,
both in the heavens and on earth,
how old and ever-new are those partners
passionately dancing together
in the perpetual birthing of your universe.

Double Wow! I just discovered

Double Wow! I just discovered the Fr. Ed Hays legacy (by reading the bio about the "ashram-type" group) and... (my first Fr. Hays poem):

by this Psalm of Flexibility

That's what I have not been doing enough of: Trusting that God's heart IS an eternal springtime heart.

This Autumn being a difficult Autumn, I've been arguing with God about letting the leaves fall off the trees. I needed those leaves to STAY on those trees, until I read this poem.

Thank you Fr. Hays, for showing me How to LET GO. I do trust in the beautiful Hubble photographs of that colorful universe out there. I do trust in the black holes (according to Nova) in the MIDDLE of all those galactic constellations. Seems scary. But black holes have got to have some redeeming qualities, that we will find out sooner or later.

Wow! Fr. Hays, you are my new mentor for my artist wanna-be self. Your poem really helped me a lot! It was poem ministry!

O spirit of God’s eternal

O spirit of God’s eternal springtime heart,
grant me the virtue of humility and truth.
Live within me and shine though me
Make my will reflect your Will,
which at this moment is creating
new galaxies and infant suns.
Make me obedient to your Spirit
as you teach me the alchemist’s recipe
through the teachings and spirituality of the great Saints
and your Holy Church.

Stir my mind well with your sacred spoon
to awaken within me an honest recognition of
my smallness and fragility
and reliance on your Love and inspiration.
Give me a humble heart, to recognize and embrace those Divine gifts
that you have put before me to know your Holy Will.
The Magisterial Church, the Great Saints, Holy Scripture,
The gift of the Eucharist, and Your Humble Mother.

Gift me with elastic frontiers of heart and mind,
so I can see before my eyes,
both in the heavens and on earth,
how your Truth is eternal, never changing, always perfect.
Remove the scales from my eyes and allow me to be transformed
So that I may know and proclaim
That you are King, Lord, and Savior.

Amen
