Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, 72, a member of the Congregation of St. Basil, was appointed founding bishop of the Las Cruces diocese in 1982. He is widely recognized as a skilled pastoral leader who has great rapport with the people of his diocese, which remains among the poorest in the country. Ramirez sat down the morning of Aug. 11 for an interview with NCR at the diocese’s Pastoral Center.

What a joy to read these
What a joy to read these comments! Bishop Ramirez sounds like a wonderful, open-minded, person! I appreciated his remarks about the immigration issue, as I have found the entire concern complex and difficult to resolve in my own mind, so his shedding a bit more light was good. Also enjoyed hearing about what a great, "dynamic" pastor and trainer the deceased nun from Nebraska had turned out to be---may she rest in peace.
Heartening to know that a few Bishops like this still are operating in the United States---wishing him lots of support and all the angels he needs to help in his mission work!
When I was a child, decades and decades ago, on one of our almost-yearly trips to one of my Dad's assignments across the Country, we went to a terribly out-of-the-way Mission in New Mexico run by their friend, a Father Guier, but that was about 60 years ago---I wish I could remember the name of the Town...) Our friend the Priest was quite isolated then; apparently things have ot changed too much.
