Webathon Day 3: Grants met, challenge remains

 |  NCR Today

I posted my last Webathon update, went to lunch, came back 45 minutes later and the matching grant had already been met! Thank you, anonymous donor!

The matching grant has been met, but really, the challenge remains. We need to raise $100,000 this week. And that support has to come from you. If you've ever posted a comment on our website, if you like the rough-and-tumble world of bloggers and comment boxes, now is the time for you to make your contribution. What is your experience on NCRonline.org worth to you? $10, $20, $30? Whatever it's worth, please send us that much support.

NCR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your gift is tax-deductible as allowed by law.

What brings people back to NCR? I'd like to think that it has something to do with what Sr. Rose Pacatte mentions in her video clip: I hope you see here "the intersection of faith life and creativity."

We sent Sr. Rose to the Sundance Film Festival in January because we know she has a special eye for film. It is so easy to write in condemnation of pop culture because so much of it is trash. Many religious media critics take that tack. Not Sr. Rose. She takes media at face value. She approaches a review with these questions: What is it in that film that reflects human identity or the search for human identity?

A film that addresses those questions, she says, has the power to transform the world and make the world a better place. Pop culture is an imperfect vehicle for these kinds of questions, but it is the vehicle we have and that the world engages with. Sr. Rose uses the tools presented her to make a statement on basic human dignity. "And I think this is what NCR seeks to do, too," she said.

I hope so. Give to NCR today.
