The Leadership Conference of Women Religious will meet here in St. Louis next week. The local Catholic Action Network for Social Justice has declared St. Louis a "sister" city. They are arranging for people to be at the airport and hotel with signs and bouquets of flowers to greet the sisters and welcome them.

They have scheduled prayer vigils on the steps of the Basilica Cathedral of St. Louis from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7, the first day of the meetings, and at the Old Cathedral near the Arch from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9.

They have a Facebook page, St. Louis, A "Sister" City. On the page, you can write a letter telling about sisters who were important in your life. The goal is to collect 800 letters and give one to each sister attending the meeting.

There's a link to Sr. Pat Farrell's interview with Terry Gross on public radio as well as one to the message to the nuns from 75 members of Congress. There's a video of a May vigil closing with everyone singing "This Little Light of Mine." You can also order a T-shirt.

It's a wonderful welcome to sisters, full of good humor and steadfast support.
