Head of Zenit resigns, cites differences with Legion
by Tom Roberts on Sep. 29, 2011
Spanish journalist Jesus Colina has resigned as founder and editorial director of Zenit, a Catholic news agency, citing differences over issues of trust and transparency with the Legionaries of Christ, Zenit's sponsoring agency.
The story was reported today by Catholic News Service's John Thavis. Read the full report here.

Why is it that the
Why is it that the Legionaries of Christ remind me of a slow growing form of spiritual cancer?
Looks like Legion is 'keeping
Looks like Legion is 'keeping on trucking'
So the Vatican thinks it can still lie about accountability/change/reform/transparency ...
To still have the Legion operating is like having the Gestapo still operating in Germany in 1950. WTF can we do?
MACIEL & BILL
MACIEL & BILL DONAHUE............. Thanks, Tom. The negative repercussions of having permitted Maciel to abuse so many seminarians for so long will not end any time soon. Bill Donahue yesterday criticized NCR columnist, Richard McBrien, for repeating in his current NCR column Jason Berry's statements about Donahue and Maciel. I accept Bill Donahue's word that he really had nothing to do with Maciel, but that raises a different problem. If Bill knew as early as 1997 , as he indicated yesterday, that Maciel was to be avoided, why didn't Bill inquire and speak out then about the evils of Maciel. The pope's apologists tout the pope's much delayed actions almost a decade later (in 2006) against an aged Maciel. The pope's actions included going after Maciel's financial empire as well. This current Zenit development appears to be just another consequence of the earlier failed efforts. As Jason Berry earlier reported, Msgr. John Alesandro, then chancellor of the Rockville Centre Diocese, one time president of the US Canon Law Society and a nephew of Cardinal Bevilaqua (of later Philly infamy), wrote the Vatican in detail in 1976 about Maciel's misdeeds. That's right, I said 1976. Nothing happened and Alesandro apparently got the message and dropped it. In the mid-'80's, Maciel victims sat outside the present pope's office at the CDF, but he wouldn't see them. It is complete nonsense to say the pope really moved effectively on Maciel. While the present pope's apologists blame JP II and Cardinal Sodano, and they certainly appear blameworthy, then Cardinal Ratzinger had a duty to speak out and did not. Justice delayed is justice denied. Please see Question 33 (Fraternal Correction) in the Secunda Secundae of Aquinas' Summa Theologica. Aquinas, citing Augustine and Matt 18:15, demonstrates we have an affirmative duty to correct prelates who are committing evil.
Aren't we fortunate to see a
Aren't we fortunate to see a man with integrity prepared to speak up and be counted.
He's to be commended especially dealing with the slippery slopes of Religious Orders, with their dishonest connections.
I wonder if this will be a precedent, Catholic journalist and affiliations are going to be placed under a lot of pressure with the Church fighting to preserve it's image.
This is incredible. We all
This is incredible. We all said they'd try to revise the past and try to recapture their lost power, prestige, and money lost by their support of their pedophile, conman founder. Who in their right mind could trust the Legion? If the Vatican had any courage they would just scrap the whole organization. It was built on a tissue of lies, fraud, and sex. Remember: they conned JPII. Don't let them loose in the Vatican halls again with their stuffed envelopes, cars, and $2,000 hams......
