In playing political brinksmanship with health care legislation, the U.S. bishops are jeopardizing the only chance so many millions of Americans may have for improved health care in the next decade.
If health care improvements fail to pass Congress, I for one, will blame the bishops every time I see or hear of an American suffering because he or she cannot afford, cannot get, good health care.
(Of course, not one bishop lacks the best health care Catholics can pay for.)
The greater good for most Americans is clear, but the bishops are blind to it.
