A series of photos of Pope Francis embracing a man with neurofibromatosis (a condition long associated with the 'Elephant Man' Joseph Carey Merrick) has captured the imagine of a global audience.
The Francis Chronicles
Being on God's "guest list" is not enough for salvation; a person must respond to the offer of faith and actively participate in the life of the church, Pope Francis said.
Being a Christian means accepting God's invitation to believe in Jesus and to celebrate with the whole church the joy of being saved, the pope said Tuesday during his early morning Mass in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, where he lives.
Pope Francis' prayer intention for November is:
“That priests who experience difficulties may find comfort in their suffering, support in their doubts, and confirmation in their fidelity."
His mission intention is:
“That as fruit of the continental mission, Latin American Churches may send missionaries to other Churches."

Pope Francis offered special prayers for migrants and refugees who have died in their flights seeking freedom and economic justice. The prayers were offered Nov. 1, the Feast of All Saints, at the end of his evening Mass at Rome's Verano cemetery.
“I would like to pray especially for our brothers and sisters who have died seeking freedom, a more worthwhile life," he said.
Another video has emerged of the child who decided he wanted to sit on the papal chair and cling to Pope Francis while the patient pope was addressing a group about family values.
Francis Chronicles: Pope Francis at an outdoor Mass at Rome's Verano cemetery urged Christians to reflect on the promise of eternal life in heaven.
Pope Francis preached today on the Gospel of Luke 13: 31-35, which includes these lines:
you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how many times I yearned to gather your children together
as a hen gathers her brood under her wings,
but you were unwilling!"
"Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16
Thousands of Catholic families from around the world gathered at the Vatican over the weekend to celebrate the Year of Faith with Pope Francis.
A small group of children was invited to sit on the pope's platform to listen to speakers from across the world speak about their faith and families.
Pope Francis was visibly amused when one child stayed on the stage instead of returning to his seat on the steps.
My favorite quotes from Pope Francis:
“The priest who seldom goes out of himself … misses out on the best of our people, on what can stir the depths of his priestly heart. … This is precisely the reason why some priests grow dissatisfied, lose heart and become in a sense collectors of antiquities or novelties — instead of being shepherds living with ‘the smell of the sheep.’ This is what I am asking you — be shepherds with the smell of sheep.”
