Obama administration rejects Keystone pipeline

Juliet Eilperin and Steven Mufson of the Washington Post are reporting:

Obama administration rejects Keystone pipeline

President Obama, declaring that he would not bow to congressional pressure, announced Wednesday that he was rejecting a Canadian firm’s application for a permit to build and operate the Keystone XL pipeline, a massive project that would have stretched from Canada’s oil sands to refineries in Texas.

Obama said that a Feb. 21 deadline set by Congress as part of the two-month payroll tax cut extension had made it impossible to do an adequate review of the pipeline project proposed by TransCanada.

The controversial Keystone XL pipeline has been under review for more than three years. Environmental groups have argued that the extraction of oil sands contributed to climate changes and the pipeline itself posed leak risks.

“This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people,” the president said in a statement.

Another indication that,

Another indication that, despite their rhetoric, the Obama administration continues to work against the best interests of the poor. They, like everyone else, needs plentiful, cheap energy. Obama, however, insists on favoring the special interests who want to make money with huge grants for so-called green energy projects, despite the failure of many and the fact that they can never come close to meeting anywhere near our total energy needs. We should be exploiting the low cost oil and natural gas in the northern hemisphere and nuclear power like most other industrialized countries. This further helps the poor by improving the economy because we do not have to buy it from unfriendly countries have way around the globe. Instead the administration is letting much of this cheap energy go to the Chinese.

This is another example of

This is another example of why this president needs to be replaced!
We have a perfect opportunity to create work for thousands, move away from middle eastern oil, keep our energy costs in check and do business with our friendly neighbor to the north. But no, we buy our oil from Arab terrorists or Venezuala Communists and pay $3.59/gal for gas!

Does anyone know if the

Does anyone know if the weather in Canada is too cold for them to refine their own oil?
I'd think it would be good for Canada to do so and to sell us the finished product.
I'd think if they could there would be less wear and tear on the environment.

It is not about energy it is

It is not about energy it is about the form of energy. We can all conserve energy in many ways. It is our life style that is the energy hogs in this country. A little conservation could provide a glut of petroleum in this country. God would never approve of how we have raped his creation in the name of capitalism.
Please "live simply so others can simply live". Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth

The envirocrats have to

The envirocrats have to realize they cannot have it all and society will not allow the envirocrats to destroy the economy in lieu of environmental zealotry. Instead of denying income for the millions of jobless they should be concentrating on reasonable solutions. Instead of congratulating themselves about the cancelation of the Keystone pipeline it would do them well to promote the construction of refineries near the oil fields. The newer refineries would be an advancement over those in use now. They would be more efficient and compatible with the environment while providing employment for many citizens.
