According to the Napa Valley Register, Bishop Jaime Soto has requested that a speaking engagement featuring Robert Spencer not be held on Catholic Church property. I called attention earlier this week to a review of Spencer's latest book at the National Catholic Register that stated Spencer was an "expert" on Islam when. in fact, he is one of the nation's most notorious anti-Muslim bigots. My intellectual tastes are pretty broad, and I am certainly in favor of free speech and rigorous inquiry, but one cannot engage a bigot. Nothing good comes from it. +Soto is to be praised for not giving this man a public forum at a Catholic venue.
