This week's big Vatican story is obviously the decision to create special structures, called "personal ordinariates", to welcome Anglicans seeking to join the Catholic church. In some reports, the move was touted as a bold gambit to end the schism that began with the English Reformation in the 16th century -- a dubious bit of spin, given that the actual number of Anglicans likely to sign up for one of these ordinariates will almost certainly be quite small.
When the dust settles, the centuries-long breach between Rome and Canterbury will remain intact.

I'm left pondering, are we a church or are we becoming a cult?
Something I have pondered as
Something I have pondered as well. There are pockets within The Church which I would view as a cult. And the danger of more of The Church moving in that direction always is very real. It requires a lot of work to resist the easy, black/white way of seeing God and the world as most cults do. In my case it has sometimes also taken a lot of work to find the living God presence in The Church because of some of the leadership and the structures of The Church. Yet, with patience and more than a little help from The Holy spirit, I perserver. My prayer is that you can as well.
Let's face it, The Church of
Let's face it, The Church of Rome has gone down the cult road many different times through out its; two thousand year history. Vatican II set the Church Jesus founded on the true path of what a catholic and universal Church should be but it got hijacked three decades ago when John Paul II became the Bishop of Rome. It became a right wing reactionary movement from that point to the present. Benedict is considerably to the right of his predecessor, which just pushes the Church into solid cult status. Blessed John the 23rd has probably turned over so many times in his grave that he is ready to jump out. The Holy Spirit is expediting the decay of the imperial Roman system at the Vatican. The current crop is so far removed from the teachings and examples preached by Jesus that it is all about to implode. Power corrupts absolutely. Fasten your seat belts, we are all in for a very bumpy ride!
